چکیده

In common buildings the soil-structure-interaction (SSI) is governed by the elastic behaviour of the building. The best conditions to see the soil effect predominate would be a dynamic rigid body movement of a massive building. For this reason measurements were carried out on an old anti-aircraft tower from World War II on typical Viennese soil conditions. The dynamic properties of the soil could be determined in two different ways. The first one is the common way using the dispersion of the Rayleigh waves on the soil surface and the back calculation to shear wave profiles. The second approach is the back calculation of the soil stiffness based on the soil-structure-interaction. With the simultaneous measurement of the dynamic movement of the building the kinematic behaviour of the SSI could be determined. The tilting oscillations of the tower in both directions with different frequencies transmitted to the soil could be measured in the surroundings. The decay of these vibrations and their influence on the H/V-method results was studied. The results of the dynamic measurements were compared with different methods of numerical simulation. The benefits and the disadvantages of the methods can be compared. The calculation values of the numerical models could be calibrated with the real dynamic properties of the measured SSI-system.

Seismic Damage Assessment of RC Buildings Subjected to the Rotational Ground Motion Records Considering Soil-Structure Interaction

The significance of the seismic rotational components have been overlooked in the seismic evaluation of structural behavior. As researchers have measured seismic components more accurately using sensitive rotational velocity sensor, it was observed that the magnitude of rotational components is considerable and could not be neglected. Hence, some parts of seismic damage or failure of structures...

Torsion Effect on the RC Structures using Fragility Curves Concerning Soil-Structure Interaction

The existence of torsion, as well as consideration of the Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI), increase the natural periods of the structure resulting from a subsequent decrease in the seismic demand of the system. This paper summarizes the probabilistic assessment for evaluation of collapse fragility curves in concrete moment resisting structure with different mass center eccentricities. A 12-sto...

Base Level Evaluation in Buildings with Different Foundation Levels by Soil-foundation-structure Interaction

The base level is among the effective parameters in determining the seismic force on a structure, if the equivalent-static method is used for analyzing a structure. It is obvious that the base level is located on foundation in buildings in which foundation is built in a single level and there is not any interaction between the structure's walls and the soil; however, in some buildings which hav...

Soft Soil Seismic Design Spectra Including Soil-structure Interaction

Design spectrum is known as an essential tool in earthquake engineering for calculation of maximum (design) responses in a structural system. Soil-structure interaction (SSI), as a phenomenon of coupling of responses of a structure and its underlying soil, was explored after introduction of design spectra and has not been taken into account in developing a design spectrum traditionally. To cons...

A critical review on structure-soil-structure interaction

The purpose of this paper is to review computational methods in structure-soil-structure interaction. As a result of globalization, buildings are located close to each other. This issue happens especially in big cities, making the study of structure-soil-structure interaction as an essential part of structural design process. The effect of soil medium, on which the building structure stands, es...

Evaluation of Seismic Behavior of Steel Moment Resisting Frames Considering Nonlinear Soil-structure Interaction

In structural analysis, the base of structures is usually assumed to be completely rigid. However, the combination of foundation and the subsurface soil, makes in fact a flexible-base for the soil-structure system. It is well-known that the structural responses can be significantly affected by incorporating the Soil-structure Interaction (SSI) effects. The aim of the present study is to provide...
